Our 2023 Youth Art Month Fundraiser

Since its inception in 1969, Youth Art Month (YAM) has been an effort to instill the value of visual art education in young children and teenagers. It’s a time where local and state educators, business leaders, and governments double down on raising awareness for visual arts through school events, student exhibitions, public art festivals, and more.

YAM is typically held in March, but we’re fortunate to have made so much progress over the past few decades that visual arts have become more prioritized by schools, communicators, and legislators all year round!

My Good Brain is one of the many organizations that aims to empower children and their communities with accessible art resources to improve mental health through healthy and creative activities. Youth Art Month is an important time for us to share our vision with you and hopefully rally your support to serve more children in the Bay Area with our art programs!

We were incredibly excited that we got to celebrate Youth Art Month 2023 with a full day of art activities streamed live on our YouTube channel! Let’s dive a little bit deeper into what our YAM fundraiser was all about.

All about our special Youth Art Month event

This year’s Youth Art Month theme is “Your Art, Your Voice.”

At My Good Brain, our team comprises individuals with various creative interests. Each person has a unique view of what art is and how it matters to them. As a result, there isn’t a right or wrong answer!

We wanted to create a safe space for children and their loved ones to learn how different art forms can be a tool for mental well-being. So, our team sat down to share their favorite art activities in a one-day virtual event. From dance to sculpting, painting, and songwriting, this event aimed to provide children, families, and teachers with a new collection of ideas for an art-filled day at home and in school.

Here’s a brief rundown of all the sessions 🎨

  1. Mindful movement and dance with Peri

  2. Music composition and songwriting with Kellan

  3. Air dry clay sculpting with Anya

  4. Mindfulness mandalas with Katrina

  5. Watercolor painting our internal self with Danessa

  6. Multimedia collage with Ashley

  7. Creative writing and journaling with Winona

Those who purchased tickets for the event or donated to our YAM fundraiser have full access to the event recording so they can have it handy at all times!

The event recording can be viewed by all on our Youth Art Month page until March 31st, 2023. After that, you can view the recording by being a donor and supporting our cause.

We deeply appreciate your support — here’s why 👇

Why support My Good Brain’s Youth Art Month Fundraiser?

All ticket sales and donations from My Good Brain’s YAM fundraiser will help support costs to build art therapy tool kits for 40 Bay Area students!

If you aren’t already familiar with our Tool Kit Program, it’s a quarterly school-based intervention that helps teachers promote mental and emotional health in the classroom.

Our team assembles a box of guided resources and art supplies built around a mental health topic, like compassion, reflection and renewal, and stress management. The tool kits are best suited for elementary and middle school students ages 5 to 13 — you can learn more about the program here

Thank you for being on this journey with us 🧡

My Good Brain has come a long way over the past two years to have been able to successfully hold this online arts event. We’re so grateful for the support of our tool kit recipients, art program participants, donors, sponsors, local communities, social media followers….well, we could go on forever!

Whether you attended the YAM event or are reading this to learn more about what we do, thank you for being here. If you’re interested, here are some other ways you can support us after Youth Art Month:
